Daniel Petrolia is an assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Mississippi State University, where he holds a research and teaching appointment focusing on environmental and natural-resource economics. He received his Ph.D. in agricultural and applied economics from the University of Minnesota in 2005. His research on the economics of nitrogen abatement on artificially-drained farmland earned him the 2007 Ph.D. Dissertation Award in Water Policy and Socioeconomics from the Universities Council on Water Resources. He received his M.S., B.A. and B.S. degrees from Louisiana State University. In addition to his teaching duties, he is currently involved in research on valuation of wetland and barrier-island restoration policies; hurricane evacuation behavior; demand analysis for fuel ethanol; and the economics of using crop residues for energy production. Dan and his wife, Angie, are Louisiana natives; they have three little girls, Maria, Anna Katherine, and Elizabeth.
