Rex H. Caffey,
a native of Louisiana, earned three degrees from Louisiana State
University: a B.S. in Agribusiness (1988), an M.S. in Resource
Economics (1994), and a Ph.D. in Fisheries Science (1998). Additionally,
he has worked in numerous marine-related sectors -- in research
and development for an international aquaculture firm, as an offshore
worker on petroleum platforms, and as licensed charter captain
in the Gulf of Mexico. Dr. Caffey is currently an associate professor
in the LSU Department of Agricultural Economics where he coordinates
a state-wide extension program in Wetland and Coastal Resources
for the LSU Agricultural Center and the Louisiana Sea Grant College
Program. In this capacity he has received numerous awards, most
recently being named Louisiana’s Conservation Educator of
the Year by the National Wildlife Federation. In 2003, Caffey
became the founding director of the LSU Center for Natural Resource
Economics and Policy (CNREP). The primary objective of CNREP is
to foster the interaction of social scientists and policy professionals
to address natural resource and environmental problems in Louisiana
and the nation.

Work: Wetland policy; resource valuation, coastal restoration
economics, coastal fisheries management; sustainability modeling,
bioeconomics, economic development and project feasibility.
